In badminton, Wong Wai-lap won a bronze medal in the men's singles at the French Open 1992. Chan Siu-kwong and Chung Hoi-yuk won a silver medal in the mixed doubles at the Asian Badminton Championships 1992.

At the 2nd Asian Junior Cycling Championships, Wong Kam-po won the gold medal in the 129.5 kilometres individual road race.

In a yachting event, the 6th Asian Regatta, the Hong Kong team won three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal in the men's Lechner A390, Hobie 16, Flying Fifteen, and women's Laser events respectively. The athletes included Sam Wong, Tong Shing, David Ong, Ronnie Fung, Mike Scantlebury, Eric Lockeyear, Rolf Heemskerk and Lyn Jones.

At the 12th FIQ Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships, Choi Miu-chu, Catherine Che and Rose Chung won the championship in the ladies' trios. Choi also won the silver medal in the ladies' singles event. Franco Lau and Frankie Cheung won the bronze medal in the men's doubles event.

At the 4th Asian Canoeing Championships, Hong Kong canoe polo team won a gold medal while Cheng Mei-po won a bronze medal in the women's 500 metres singles kayak. Kwok Lin-wui and Lee Chun-sai won a bronze medal in the women's 500 metres doubles kayak and Tsang Chak-fai and Sham Wang kit won a bronze medal in the men's 500 metres doubles kayak.

At the 4th Asian Rowing Championships, Ho Kim-fai won a silver medal in the women's lightweight single sculls, and together with Pang Bik-har won a silver medal in the women's lightweight double sculls. Kai Ramming, partnered with Chiang Wing-hung, won a silver medal in the men's lightweight double sculls while Ramming also won a bronze medal in the men's lightweight single sculls.

At the 4th Asian Swimming Championships, Michael Wright won two bronze medals in the men's 50 metres and 100 metres freestyle events.

At the 7th Asian Judo Championships, Law Lai-wah won a bronze medal at the women's -56 kilogram event and, a bronze medal at the 4th Commonwealth Judo Tournament. In the same tournament, Lee Kan won a bronze medal in the men's -60 kilogram event.

At the 2nd Asian Youth and Cadet Fencing Championships, Lee Lea-Anne won the gold medal while Chan Wing-sze won the silver medal in the women's under 17 epee event. Leung Yin-sha won a silver medal in the women's under 17 foil event.

At the World Amateur Snooker Championship 1992, Yao Kam-wai won the second runner-up in the world amateur snooker event.

Hong Kong Sports Institute

The aim of Hong Kong Sports Institute, formerly the Jubilee Sports Centre, is to provide an environment in which athletic talent can be identified, nurtured and developed. This aim implies the pursuit of excellence by athletes and coaches.

The mandate of the institute is sixfold: athlete development and management; coach education and development; sports science, sports medicine and research; resource informa- tion; international exchanges, and co-operation with other bodies.

In 1992, the institute offered a sports scholarship scheme for over 180 local high- performance athletes in 16 sports, receiving comprehensive services on coaching, facilities,
