Chairman's Statement

OUTLOOK

During the past year, the Company took various initiatives to explore the possibility of developing public transport services between Hong Kong and the mainland of China. Considerable progress has been made in identifying potential new business opportunities and in ascertaining the procedural requirements which would have to be met. Work will

continue in these areas.

However, while every effort will be made to develop appropriate new business opportunities, the Company's main emphasis should continue to be focused on the requirements and aspirations of Hong Kong. In particular, the Government is now devoting additional resources to tackle the worsening traffic congestion problems, and with Hong Kong's growing economic prosperity and affluence, KMB feels that it would be appropriate to seek to provide a better quality of service that would be attractive to private car users as well as to the Company's existing customers.

DIRECTORS

Under the Public Bus Services Ordinance, the persons holding the positions of Commissioner for Transport and Deputy Secretary for Transport (Transport Services) are appointed by the Governor to sit on the Board of the Company. The incumbents of these posts are Mr. Rafael Hui Si Yan, JP and Mr. Isaac Chow Yiu Nam (who replaced Mrs. Carrie Yau Tsang Ka Lai with effect from 14 November 1994) respectively. I would like to express my appreciation of the valuable contributions that all of them have made to the Company.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Sir Quo Wei Lee, CBE, JP, FCIB, LLD (Hon), DBA (Hon), DLitt(Hon) to the Board. Sir Quo Wei Lee was appointed as a Director of the Company on 22 September 1994.

APPRECIATION

On behalf of the Board, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all our employees for their continued loyalty and dedication towards the Company. It is their commitment to provide the highest possible quality of service to our customers that allows KMB to meet its goals. I am very pleased to be able to look forward to our employees' continued excellence of performance.
