The daily average number of passengers
for 1993 remained unchanged at aboutTM
2.65 million passengers (1992 was a leap
year). The actual distance travelled by
the Company's buses totalled 243
million kilometres (1992: 234 million
kilometres).

The increase in distance travelled is
primarily due to the introduction of
additional routes as well as improved
frequencies on certain routes.

The route network further expanded
during the year with a total of 16 new
bus routes being inaugurated.
Six of
these new routes were introduced
to
serve
the demand arising from
developments. Three new
new
routes
deploying air-conditioned single-deck
buses were introduced to serve areas
where demand warrants the use of single-
deck buses. In addition, five air-
conditioned special services (comprising
two local and three cross-harbour
services) were introduced to provide
commuters with a good alternative to crowded MTR compartments during
