主席報告
In addition, the opening of Route 5
joining Shatin and Tsuen Wan in early
1990 will offer the opportunity to
shorten the existing bus services
between the Eastern New Territories and Tsuen Wan. Two new routes will be introduced to serve Ma On Shan
and Shatin and five routes via Route 5
will replace the existing three routes operating through the Lion Rock
Tunnel and along Tai Po Road. These
services will provide passengers with
more direct and faster journeys
between the Tsuen Wan and the Eastern New Territories.
OUTLOOK
Further redistribution of population into the New Territories, as a result of the rapid development of new towns and new housing estates, provides the opportunity for the Company to
introduce more routes to cater for the ensuing new demands. As the two
railways (MTR and KCR) are reaching
their full capacity, KMB is now in a better position to cater for further
growth in demand for public transport. More new buses will be bought for operating new routes as well as for
replacing older buses. To upgrade the
quality of the bus service, KMB is experimenting with a prototype air- conditioned double deck bus. The Company hopes to be able to
air-condition the fleet on a large scale in the future.
此外,連接沙田及荃灣之五號幹線
一九九零年初通車後,將可縮短現時行走
新界東部至荃灣之間之巴士車程。本公司
將開設兩條行走馬鞍山及沙田之新巴士
線,以及五條駛經五號幹線之巴士線,以
~- 取代現有三條行經獅子山隧道及大埔道之
巴士線。該等服務將令往來荃灣及新界
東部之乘客能更直接迅速抵達目的地。
展望
由於新市鎮及新屋邨迅速發展,進一步
改變新界人口之分佈情況,令本公司得以
開設更多巴士線,以滿足因應而生之
新需求。此外,兩個鐵路系統(地下鐵路
及九廣鐵路)的載客量正趨飽和,九巴
正好提供更多服務,以滿足市民對公共
交通服務越趨殷切的需求。爲開設新巴士
路線及淘汰舊型巴士,九巴將會購置更多
新車。此外,本公司為提高巴士服務
質素,現正進行冷氣雙層巴士試驗計劃。
本公司期望日後大部份車隊均可裝置冷氣
設備。
