Section B.-Special Regulations relating to the Transport of Petroleum Spirit in Vehicles other than Tank-Wagons.
208. Every vehicle shall be-
(a) strongly constructed,
(b) maintained in good condition throughout, and the sides and back thereof shall be of such a height as will prevent any part of the load from falling from the vehicle.
209.--(1) The petroleum spirit shall be contained in strong metal containers, securely closed, and in good con- dition.
(2) Every container which has contained petroleum spirit and which is conveyed with any container containing any petroleum spirit shall be securely closed.
(3) No container shall be so loaded as to project beyond the side or back of the vehicle.
(4) The load of containers shall be protected from sparks, lighted matches, and fire of external origin by a fixed or loose cover made of fire-resisting material.
210. (1) If the vehicle is mechanically propelled-
(a) the engine shall be of the internal combustion type, and
(b) the engine, fuel tank, electric batteries (if any), and exhaust system shall be effectively screened from the body of the vehicle by a fire-resisting shield which shall project upwards to a point above the topmost level of the load when the vehicle is fully loaded, and downwards to a point not more than twelve inches from the ground: Provided that if the vehicle is fitted with an all steel cab the rear of such cab shall be deemed to constitute part of the shield for the purposes of this regulation,
(2) Paragraph (1) (b) of this regulation shall not apply to any fuel tank which-
(a) is fitted with a fuel feed apparatus, screened from the body of the vehicle by such fire-resisting shield, for the purpose of lifting the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine,
(b) is protected from blows by the frame of the chassis. of the vehicle or by strong steel guards,
(c) has a lock fitted to the filling hole cover, and
(d) contains fuel having a flash point above 150° Fahrenheit.
(3) Every window in such fire-resisting shield shall be fitted with wired glass.
(4) Every fuel feed pipe in connexion with a gravity feed shall be fitted with a quick-action cut off valve in a position easily accessible and clearly marked.
(5) This regulation shall not apply in any case where any vehicle carrying petroleum spirit breaks down, and the load thereon is transferred to a vehicle not complying with the requirements of this regulation for the purpose of conveying the load to its destination.
