38 Articles liable to customs duty

Canada (including Newfoundland) Printed matter must be conspicuously and indelibly marked with an indication of the country of origin.

New Zealand Advertising matter (catalogues, price lists and so on) is subject to customs duty under the New Zealand customs tariff; but trade catalogues and price lists relative to the goods of firms or persons having no established business in New Zealand are not liable to duty,

Norfolk Island See Australia and Norfolk Island.

SMALL PACKETS POST

Dutiable articles may be sent by the Small Packets post.

INSURED BOX POST

Dutiable articles may be sent in insured boxes.

LETTER POST: INCOMING PACKETS

Duțiable articles may be sent to this Colony in green label letters, small packets and insured boxes, as well as by parcel post.

Duty on goods imported by post is calculated in accordance with the customs tariff for the time being in force, and any inquiry regarding the customs charges raised on a packet from abroad should be addressed to the Commerce and Industry Department and should be accompanied by that portion of the cover which bears the address and the charge label.

PRINTED PAPERS

Any printed paper packet with dutiable contents must be plainly marked to that effect.

SAMPLE POST

The importation of dutiable articles into this Colony by sample post is permitted and no duty is payable, provided that it can be shown to the satisfaction of the Director of the Commerce and Industry Department, that the goods are in fact samples or advertising matter of no commercial value and are not intended for re-sale.

INCOMING PARCELS

Parcels received from places abroad are subject to examination by the Customs; and those containing dutiable articles are liable to charges calculated in accordance with the Customs tariff for the time being in force.

Any application in regard to customs charges on a parcel from a place abroad should be addressed to the Commerce and Industry Department, and should be accompanied by that portion of the cover which bears the address and the charge label.

PREFERENTIAL TARIFFS

Many articles of British production or manufacture are entitled to preferential rates of Customs duty within the Commonwealth if accompanied by a Certificate of Imperial Preference which can be obtained from the Commerce and Industry Department, Fire Brigade Building, Connaught Road, Hong Kong.
