Waste of man-made fibres, yarns, fabrics, including narrow woven fabrics, braids and ornamental trimmings and make-up articles exceeding the above limit but not over 16 oz. gross weight will be charged with the appropriate duty. Each packet must show plainly particulars of the value, net weight and (for silk and fabrics of man-made fibre) the square yardage. A Post Office fee of 1s. Od. for clearance through the Customs will be charged on each packet on which customs duty is levied.
Tobacco. Type samples of unmanufactured tobacco in packages each not ex- ceeding 6 oz. gross weight will be delivered on payment of duty at a flat rate of £1 3s. 74d. each package.
Wine, Packages each not exceeding 12 oz. gross weight will be delivered free of duty.
All other goods liable to duty under the Import Duties Act, 1958. Packets con- taining articles which are genuine trade samples of goods liable to duty under the Import Duties Act, 1958, (G.B.). may be imported free of duty subject to the following conditions:
The samples must be supplied free of charge and not have any saleable value, if necessary being effectively disfigured or mutilated. Only one sample of the same description, brand, colour or variety may be sent to each addressee. Samples of different brands or varieties of the same description of article, or articles of different descriptions, may however be imported in the same packet. The samples must not be for copying or similar use in manufacture for the United Kingdom market.
Goods other than Trade Samples admitted by sample post. Packets containing the undermentioned dutiable articles are also admitted by sample post provided that cach packet is plainly marked c/o The Officer of Customs and Excise and bears the full name and address of the addressee. Customs duty at the appropriate rate will be charged. A Post Office fee of 1s. Od. for clearance through the Customs will be charged on each packet on which customs duty is levied.
Bees.
Medicines urgently required and difficult to obtain.
Printers' plates. Each packet must be plainly marked "Printers' Plates".
Serum and vaccine. Serum or vaccine in tubes, rendered harmless by the method of preparation and packing.
Restrictions: The export of manufactured cotton or part cotton goods to the United Kingdom except those listed below must be covered by an Export Licence (Yellow Form 4):
Exceptions:-
Yarns and threads.
Sacks and bags.
Stockings and socks.
Knitted clothing, including goods made up from knitted piece-goods, but excluding knitted piece-goods.
Gloves.
Footwear.
The present provision of no export licence being required for goods valued up to £25 (HK$400) does not apply to these articles and all such articles except those sent by sample post as genuine trade samples will require a licence.
Articles by parcel post, letter post and small packet post (including registered articles) declared to contain such goods will only be forwarded when accompanied by a proper export licence. When such articles have been posted without a licence they will be returned to sender by D.L.O. endorsed "Export Licence Required".
