AIR MAIL SERVICES
SERVICES AVAILABLE
First class mail-letters, letter packets, aerogrammes and postcards.
Second class mail-printed papers, commercial papers, samples, and, to the countries which accept them, small packets, may be sent to most overseas countries.
Registered air mail. First and second class air mail items may be registered with the exception of items for, Chagos Islands, North Viet Nam, The Peoples Republic of China and Tibet.
Second class items must conform to the regulations for such items and must be clearly marked in the upper left-hand corner of the cover, "Printed Papers", "Samples", etc. Such items must not be sealed against inspection and must not contain anything in the nature of a current letter.
Insured letters and boxes may be sent by air to certain countries, see Section II of this Guide, under country of destination.
Parcels may be sent by air to a number of destinations, see the Air Mail Leaflet. General. The limits of size and weight are the same as for items sent by surface mail and the same general conditions apply.
Air Mail Labels must be affixed to all items on which air mail rates are paid (except aerogrammes). The labels which are obtainable free of charge should be affixed at the top of left-hand corner of the address side of the item. The absence of a label may lead to delay.
Insufficiently prepaid items. Articles intended for transmission by air and insufficiently prepaid are forwarded by air, taxed with double the deficiency, provided that at least 75% of the air mail surcharge has been prepaid, otherwise such articles are forwarded by surface route.

AEROGRAMMES (Air letter forms)
These may be sent to any address in the world for a postage rate of 50c. They must not contain enclosures and must be written on either the stamped air letter forms which are obtainable from POs, price 50c, each, or on privately manufactured forms on which the postage may be prepaid either by means of a 50c. postage stamp or a franking machine impression. Privately manufactured forms may be used only if they bear an indication that they have been approved by the PMG. Forms which do not bear such an indication or any which contain enclosures will be treated as ordinary air mail letters and surcharged accordingly.
