Prohibitions: Generally the same as for Great Britain with the following additions: Contraceptives, Christmas crackers, etc., hay or straw in any form (even as packing material, straw hats, etc.)
Restrictions apply to the importation of the undermentioned articles:----
(1) certain thereapeutic articles, such as vaccines, toxins, penicillin, etc., except under licence issued by the Ministry of Public Health, Dublin;
2) tea, manufactured tobacco, except under licence issued by
the Revenue Commissioner, Dublin;
(3) plants, parts of plants, foodstuffs, fruits are only admitted
when accompanied by a licence issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Dublin;
(4) wines; cotton, wool, linen and silk yarn and thread, and woven or knitted goods made of these materials; saccharine; except when accompanied by a licence issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Dublin;
(5) morphine, opium, cocaine and other stupifiants; firearms and part thereof; toy pistols; except on production by the sender of a licence or permit issued by the Ministry of Justice, Dublin and subject to the conditions indicated in the licence.
Customs charges: A minimum customs duty of 2s. 6d. is levied on each parcel containing dutiable goods, with the exception of bona-fide trade samples of printed matter and paper (unmounted) and laces liable to duty as such; religious books (breviaries, etc.) and food parcels sent as gifts.
If the sender wishes to claim assessment of duty at the pre- ferential rate applicable to British products, he should enclose the requisite certificate of origin in the parcel and mark the Customs declaration: Preference claimed-Certificate of Origin enclosed.
Delivery fee: A delivery fee of six-pence is charged for each parcel when the contents thereof are not liable to customs duty.
