The full address of an article presented for regis- tration must be written on the envelope or cover, and the word REGISTERED must be written or printed at the top of the address side. No letter will be accepted which shows any trace of having been opened and reclosed.

If an article bearing the word REGISTERED or any other word, phrase, or mark to the like effect, or a registration envelope intended by the sender to go forward as an ordinary letter, be dropped into a letter box, it will be compulsory registered and taxed.

Advice of Delivery of a Registered Article.

The sender of a registered article may arrange at the office of posting, either at the time of posting or subsequently, for an advice of its delivery to be sent to him. The fee is 25 cents, which is payable by means of postage stamps affixed by the sender to a form provided for the purpose.

Inquiry as to the alleged loss or non-delivery of a registered article must be accompanied by a fee of 25 cents, in cases where the sender has not paid for an 'Advice of Delivery" at the time of posting. If it is found that the Post Office is at fault the enquiry fee will be refunded.

Delivery of Registered Articles.

No registered letter will be delivered to the addressee until he or his representative, shall have signed with ink or copying pencil a receipt in the prescribed form, which will be presented to him for signature, together with the relative "Advice of Deli- very" if there is one. If the Postmaster General is not satisfied with the identity of the person claiming a registered article he may require, in addition to the signature of the person, the chop of a well-known firm.

COMPENSATION.

If it is proved to his satisfaction that a letter or packet duly admitted to registration has been entirely lost whilst in his custody, the Postmaster General undertakes, subject to the conditions set out below, to pay the sender compensation up to the maximum of fifty dollars ($50) in Hong Kong Currency.

No compensation will be paid in respect of :-

(1) any letter or packet which has been lost through a cause beyond control (e.g. tempest, shipwreck, earthquake and war);
