Staff Consultation

11. 6.72

11. The Post Office Staff Forum, established four years ago, has nineteen members representing all ranks of the staff up to Superin- tendent of Posts Level. The Forum continued to meet regularly every month and provided a useful opportunity for management and staff to discuss problems of mutual concern.

Staff Training

12. During the year a retired senior officer from the British Post Office was assigned to the task of re-organizing and modernizing Post Office training methods. Towards the end of 1972 the long established Post Office Training School at Kowloon was closed and a new Training Centre was opened in the G.P.O. building in Hong Kong.

13. The new Centre is fully equipped with modern training aids and can provide a much wider range of general and technical training than was possible in the old school. The training which is now given to all Post Office staff at appropriate stages in their careers includes induction training, job-knowledge training, refresher training and supervisory training. Courses vary in length from a few days to three weeks and cover all postal operations from the collection of letters to the sorting and despatch of international mails, and from counter services to the duties of a Postmaster.
