20. Revenue collected by the Department amounted to $160,370,098.15, an increase of 11.6% over the preceding year. The sales of duty stamps amounting to $5,804,109.90 were 2.1% more than sales in 1969-70. Postage stamps and meter impressions utilized to pay the fees on Certificates of Origin totalled $4,753,270.00.

21. Expenditure during the year amounted to $93,579,287.48. The increase over 1969-70 was in part due to salary awards effective from 1st April, 1970 but principally to increased airmail conveyance payments which rose by 15.2% over the preceding year.

22. Payments made for telephone services provided for Government Departments amounted to $3,534,495.00, some $325,000.00 more than in the preceding year.

23. The turnover in Post Office business inclusive of postal remit- tance services exceeded 320 million dollars.

Telecommunication Licences

24. Revenue from licensing of all types totalled $5,808,580.00. The increase of more than 2.3 million was chiefly accounted for by 59,916 additional broadcast television licences.

26. 40,565 First Day Covers were sold for the Tung Wah Hospital Centenary, 99,117 for the Asian Productivity Year and 118,454 for the Lunar New Year 1971 issue.

Private Boxes

27. The demand for private boxes still tends to exceed the available supply and waiting lists are maintained. The income from rentals of private boxes and bag services was $767,479.21, an increase of $75,184.71 over the preceding year.
