Parsons 355 Trenchliner

The

provides for constant, positive down pressure. Crawlers are standard trac- tor type, with 18in. flat shoes. machine's ground bearing pressure is 8.4 p.s.i.

Three bucket speeds of the model are 71, 134 and 185 ft. per minute. Machine speeds are 1, 1.9 and 2.7 m.p.h.

SCRAPER

Elevator Loading to 20 cu. yd. Capacity

DEVELOPED through a cooperative programme between Johnson Manu- facturing Co. and Caterpillar Tractor Co. of U.S.A., the J619 Johnson elevating scraper has a 161⁄2 cu. yd. struck and a 20 cu. yd. heaped capacity. Combined with the Cat 619C wheel tractor, it is capable of self-loading to heaped capacity with- out push loading.

The hydraulically powered elevator has two speeds forward and one re- verse. Ejector and bowl lift are also hydraulically controlled, with positive down pressure on the cutting edge. A sequence valve assures the floor will be fully retracted before the ejector can move forward.

A vane type hydraulic motor drives the elevator. The operator is able to vary the speed depending on the conditions of the soil. Low speed, used in tough materials, is 212 ft. per minute. High speed is 323 ft. per minute.

The scraper hauls a heaped load at a speed of 31 m.p.h. The engine is a 54 in. bore. 61⁄2 in. stroke, four cylinder Cat diesel.

DIESEL ENGINES

Air-cooled Range Produces up to 125 h.p.

NOW being produced by W.H. Dorman and Co., Ltd., Tixall Road, Stafford, UK, the DA range of air- cooled diesel engines comprises three models, 4DA, 6DA and 8DA, with in-line 4-, 6- and V8-cylinder arrangements covering power out- puts from 30 to 125 h.p. These can be used as alternatives to water-cool- ed engines for driving generating sets, pumps, and air compressors.

Dorman 4DA air-cooled diesel

On all sizes, the air cooling results in a high power-to-weight ratio and the direct-injection combustion sys- tem provides instant starting and economical fuel consumption.

Individual cylinders, cast in high- grade iron, are said to permit easy servicing, while light-alloy cylinder

heads with large-area finning ensure efficient cooling and combustion. Other standard features include large hardened-steel crankshafts and high- capacity, easily-serviced oil, fuel and air filters.

COMPRESSOR

Of Sliding Van Rotary Construction

THE Le Roi Division of Westing- house Air Brake Co., Sidney, Ohio, USA, are marketing a new single stage 125 c.f.m. portable compressor.

Le Roi 125 c.f.m. compressor

Powered by either a petrol or diesel four cylinder, overhead valve indus- trial engine, it is of sliding vane rolary construction. Ample lubrica- tion is provided at all times by a positive displacement, gear type oil pump mounted on the compressor end cover.

The compressor also features a Sin. deep alloy steel channel frame, big caster wheel, full length tool boxes and kerbside control and in- strument panel. Both the petrol and diesel versions are available in utility mountings with controls grouped for easy walk-up access.

CRANE FITMENT Two-speed Drum for Link-Belt Manhines

A PLANETARY two-speed drum op- tion for Link-Belt cranes is announced by Link-Belt Speeder Co., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA. The speed of other functions is not affected.

Benefits of the two-speed arrange- ment include greater hoist line speed for long boom operations or reduced hoist line speed for precision lower- ing of heavy loads.

The arrangement can be mounted on the front drum (inhaul) and/or rear drum. Using this planetary two- speed arrangement, individual drum shaft speeds can be either standard plus high or standard plus half speed. Field changeovers are possible.
