THE AK 3010 crane,

a new model

from Wilhag, Wilhelm Hagenkamp KG, of West Germany, can handle maximum loads of 66,250 lb. with bracing and 35.400 lb. without. It is powered by a 105 h.p. diesel engine.

Its main jib can be extended from 19 ft. 9 in. to 128 ft., and will accept an additional top jib 19 ft. 9 in., 39 ft. 6 in. or 59 ft. 4 in. long, giving a maximum length of 187 ft. 4 in.

Standard equipment includes fully- hydraulic power transmission for the precise control of individual drive units, automatic brakes for hoist, slewing and jib-setting mechanisms, as well as hoist limit switches and overload guards. The crane operator controls all movements from an en- closed platform mounted indepen- dently of the engine.

The Tractair 13 single piston two- stage reciprocating compressor mounted on the rear of a David Brown Implematic 990 tractor and driven from the power take-off through a vee belt. It produces 115 cu. ft. of air a minute at a pressure of 100 p.s.i.

The 990 tractor has a 52 h.p. engine and a six-speed gear box. Top speed is 15 m.p.h., and a drawbar is available for towing at a maximum constant pull of 4,700 lb.

AN articulated wheel-loader, the 950, announced by Caterpillar Overseas S.A., Geneva, Switzerland, weighs 22,500 lb. and is powered by a 125 h.p. turbocharged four-cylinder die- sel. Eight types of bucket configura- tions, ranging in size from 24 to 4 cu.yd. are included in a full line of attachments.

The front sec- tion can turn 35 degrees to either

side of centre, or a full 70 degrees with three turns of the steering wheel in 2.5 seconds. Rear axle oscilla- tion (15 degrees) allows the ma- chine to negotiate a 20 in. bump with all four wheels remaining on the grounds.

Power shift transmission provides two speeds forward, two speeds in reverse in both work and travel ranges with all-wheel drive in both ranges. Differential and final drives share a common lubrication system and can be disassembled as a unit.

Vibrations Evenly Distributed Over Needle

AN EVEN distribution of vibration over the full length of the needle, instead of concentration around the toe, and elimination of the need for knock starting and of the risk of damage to the tube—are advantages claimed for the Supa-Vibra over pen- dulum-type vibrators.

The makers are E. P. Allam and Co., Ltd., 132 Sloane Street, London, S.W.1.

There are five sizes, the four largest needles being interchangeable. Vibrating frequencies are 15,000 r.p.m. from the 32 mm. diameter, 12,000 from the 44, 55 and 70 mm.. and 10,500 from the 100 mm. Drive is by

a slow-speed flexible shaft through a positive speed-increaser device connected to an orthodox eccentric mass, and may be from a petrol or diesel engine, single or three phase electric motor. or hand held pneumatic motor.

A seal between the flexible shaft and the vibrator prevents the entry of grease or dirt. If necessary, 12 and 18 ft. flexible drives can be coupled to give lengths up to 36 ft.

PARSONS Division of Koehring Co., Newton, USA, have produced a new trenching machine which is claimed to have the greatest digging widths and depths of any machine of its type.

This Model 355 Trenchliner is a ladder-type machine weighing more than 55,000 lb. Capacity is 25 ft. in depth, with a 6 ft. width of cut. It is powered by a GMC 6-71 diesel engine of 164 h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m.
