Three hydraulic systems one for propulsion, one for vibration and one for power steering are fitted in the Romper 2-36, a small dual-drum arti- culated roller for use on small jobs.
A single lever joy stick controls movement in any direction. Pressure

on the stick increases the speed and the neutral position applies the brakes. Drum vibrations may be varied be- tween 1,500 and 2,800 v.p.m. and each drum oscillates 13 degrees up or down from the horizontal. With vibration, the Romper exerts a total applied force of 12,000 lb; as a static roller it provides 4,000 lb. of force.
Both drums are driven and the rear drum tracks in the exact path of the front to give consistent compaction. The inside turning radius is 72in. A Deutz air-cooled diesel of 24 h.p. at 2,800 r.p.m. provides the power.
