RCHITECTURALLY, the most interesting of the current crop of new hotels being built in Jessel- ton, North Borneo, is the five-storey Ang's Hotel. Erected on a site 86 feet by 35 feet at the end of a block of future shops, the hotel is bound- ed on three sides by roads and faces north-west.

To comply with the Jesselton Town Board's requirement that the entrance should not be on the corner, the architects designed the building around a central foyer and circula- tion areas. This, and the shape of the site, more or less dictated a cen- tral corridor, which has also been utilised to increase internal ven. tilation.

On the ground floor, in addition to the hotel reception area and din ing room, there are two shops avail able for letting. These occupy more than half of the ground floor.

In all, the hotel has 34 letting rooms, all airconditioned, and 2 staff
