The well-known architect, A. R. F. Raven, Esq., is responsible for the modern compact residence which was recently completed at No. 9 Cumberland Road, Kowloon Tong.
The building, occupying a comparatively small area, contains seven rooms consisting of Drawing Room, Dining Room and Guest Room on the ground floor, and three Bedrooms, an exceptionally large Children's Room and three Bathrooms on the upper floor. In addition there is a Kitchen, Pantry, Garage and ample servants' accommodation.
The design of the building is expressed in very simple lines, the only attempt at unusual ornamentation is in the cantilevered balcony to the main bedroom on the first floor which projects in a semi-circle from the side of the building and is carried round the front of the building the full width of the room? A cantilevered canopy over this verandah completes this unusual feature.
The external finish is in sand-grained plaster while the windows are locally made steel sections.
