The Shell Company of Singapore Ltd. (formerly the Asiatic Petroleum Co. Ltd. have recently completed a housing scheme, to provide Staff Accommodation, at Gallop Hill off Farrer Road in part of a 14 acre Estate, which they acquired before the War. As a tribute to the memory of the late Mr. E. N. C. Woolerton, a former General Manager of the Company, an application has been made to the Municipal Commissioners for permission to change the name of the Estate to "Woolerton Park.”
The scheme was originally mooted before the outbreak of the war. It was proposed to commence building opera- tions in 1939, and plans were prepared by Mr. J. A. Chippendale, M. Inst.C.E., M.Inst.R.A.. Chief Engineer for the Company and submitted to the Municipal Authorities. However, on the outbreak of hostilities in Europe, it was decided not to proceed with the development until condi- tions were more settled and favourable.

Typical floor plan of one pair of flats. There are three such pairs on each of the two floors. The planning has been splendidly done. The commodious main staircase, flanked by large store rooms and the servants stairway with the servants' rooms on either side, occupy the centre section. This arrangement allows easy and convenient access to the apartments for both master and servant, and leaves the rest of the space clear for a compact arrange- ment of the principal rooms,
