board core faced with teak-ply or natural teak strips, making a total thickness of 1 3/8 in. By the com- bination of fixed glass panels and tim- ber infills, a number of variants of the basic unit can be achieved.

Architects Team designed all the interiors, furnishings and fittings for the airlines' top-management suites and the lecture theatrette complex.

The lobby to the boardroom fea- tures an original art mural by W.Y. Choy, a local artist, working in colla- boration with the architects. The mural is made up of bent sheets of gold anodised aluminium glued on to a black anodised aluminium background, creating a three-dimensional pattern. A similar but smaller mural decorates the entrance to the theatrette lounge.

Inside the boardroom and chair- man's suite are carved timber wall panels whose pattern is based on a traditional timber tracery found in the east coast of Malaya. In contrast, the furniture, carpets and lighting fixtures are in more contemporary vein. Car- pets for the boardroom, as well as those used elsewhere in MSA's areas, were made to specific patterns and colours exclusively for this project.

The interior decor of the booking hall on the ground floor is designed by Wong & Tung & Associates of Hong Kong. It features a decorative fibrous plaster ceiling and artworks in the form of ceramic wall panels by Casa- dei, the well-known Hong Kong artist.

Services

The building is air-conditioned by a central chilled water system, fed to individual zoned air-handling units in the podium floors and fan-coil units in the tower floors.

The ceiling space of each of the podium floors is divided into six zones, each being served by an individual air- handling unit. Cool air is fed through slots in the aluminium framing grid of the suspended ceiling system, thus eliminating the use of conventional fixed ceiling air supply grilles. This allows a high degree of flexibility of office layouts without the expense of alterations to the air supply system.

In the tower floors fan-coil units are used and these are located in the ceiling plenum of each floor.

A system of floor ducting based on the planning grid is incorporated into the floor finish for telephone and power socket outlets. This enables telephone lines and connections for electrical appliances to be drawn up the face of the demountable partitions throughout the office floors.
