three sections horizontally by three recessed floors, the topmost of which contains the penthouse. The two inter- mediate recessed floors are for execu- tive suites, having an open terrace all round.
The typical floor is cantilevered from the columns and the central service core, and measures 64 ft. x 108 ft. on plan.
In view of the orientation, the east and west sides, which are the shorter sides of the block, are blanked with solid walls while the north and south sides of the block are clad in alumi- nium framed and glazed curtain wall- ing with integral aluminium sun- breakers.
An underground carpark for more than 100 cars is provided in the base- ment level which also houses the cen- tral air-conditioning plant, the electri- cal substation and the airlines cargo storage space.
A lower basement accommodates the airlines main filing storage and is equipped with a mechanically operated Compactus mobile filing system. The PABX equipment is also installed at this level.
Finishes
Externally, all walls and columns are faced with white glass mosaic. The inside of the exterior walls, which are 41⁄21⁄2 in. thick, is lined with 1⁄2 in. thick polystyrene form insulating materials and finished with plaster on exmet and painted with emulsion paint.
The suspended ceiling system is made up of specially extruded alu- minium vent-grids at 4 ft. centres, permitting cool air to pass through slots in the aluminium framing grids. Ceiling panels, 4 ft. x 2 ft. are purpose made and the self-finished mineral wool acoustic tiles are interchangeable with recessed light fittings.
Other finishes used in the building are vinyl asbestos tiles for office floors, mosaic tiles for staircase and lavatory floors, and granite slabs, 3/4 in. thick on a 3/4 in. screed, for the ground floor main public areas.
Much emphasis has been placed on the use of local timbers. These include damar minyak in the theatrette, ceil- ings of mersawa, sepatir in lift lobbies, teak carved walls and teak and teak- ply partition walls. All timber surfaces are finished in clear varnish.
Office floors have been planned for the use of a demountable partitioning system which consists of a basic panel, 4 ft. wide by 8 ft. 6 in. high. Each panel is framed in aluminium, with a laminated infill of high density chip-
