MUNICIPAL

HOLIDAY

CAMP

AT CHANGI

Interior of the Club house.

The climate of Singapore is a particularly trying one for Europeans, in that there is so little variation in temperature during the twenty-four hours of the day and between one season and another. In former years it was the custom to spend the summer months up in the hills, but as this is a rather difficult procedure these days, it must have been extremely gratifying for many hundreds of families when it was decided to proceed with the con- struction of a Holiday Camp fairly close to Singapore.

Opened by the President of the Municipal Commission. Mr. T. F. P. McNeice, in May this year, this holiday oasis comprises six bungalows four 3-bedroom and two 2-bed-

roomed and a clubhouse together with a detached block of servant's quarters and garages and is situated on the coast of the 10 milestone on the Changi Road.

This scheme replaces the old pre-war convalescent bungalow on the same site which was demolished to make way for a defence post-on the principle of turning 'swords into ploughshares' this defence post has now been converted into a very charming beauty spot and retreat on the foreshore.

This scheme is set in a pleasant layout of newly planted trees, flowering shrubs and flower boxes and beds with a wide paved promenade to the sea leading on to a swimming pagar which has just been completed.
