The third floor houses tooms for the director, the deputy director, a personal assistant, the secretary. manager, assistant manager, accoun- tant, financial officer and auditor, as well as a typists' sitting room. strong room. duplicating room and two
conference rooms.
On the fourth floor will be two senior editors's rooms, and offices for public relations officer, proof readers, typists, a reading room, a terminological bank and for a course organiser. A special prayer room. with ablution room adjoining. will be on the same floor.
On the fifth floor are a lithogra- phic
rooms for research
room,
officials, for the chief translator, eight writers' rooms, a big common room for writers and translators, an archive and a typist room.
On the sixth-floor is a roof gar den sheltered by a canopy which represents a cluster of outspread umbrellas, symbol'sing national
dignity.
Another feature that gives the building a Malayan touch is a huge mural 65 feet by 25 feet in glazed mosaic on the front facade of the cultural hall facing Edinburgh Cir- cle, depicting the Malayan way of life and the national language as a unifying factor in it.
The mural, by Ismail Mustam of the Victoria Institution, won the first prize in the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka mural competition.
Designs on the external walls of the cultural hall resemble the bam- boo-shoot (puchok rebong) motifs the cultural hall resemble the bam- usually found on Malay sarongs.
