teaching. Behind the stage are two dressing rooms and a medical room.

A feature of the hall are the two timber box roof beams supplied by Technical Structures Ltd. each

spanning 40 ft. with an additional cantilever section of 7 ft. 6 in. The boxbeams are built up of timber sections forming top and bottom cords and intermediate streets sandwiched between two panels of plywood which were pattern nailed to the timber core: they were fabricated on site. The lightness in weight of these beams considerably reduced the roof load on the supporting reinforced concrete columns.

The roof covering is corrugated asbestos cement sheets throughout, except for the reinforced concrete flat roof over the stage and dressing

rooms.

Classroom Block

The classroom block has 28 class- rooms. There are five classrooms on each floor except the first which has three classrooms, the other areas being taken up by the general office, principal's office and teachers' com- mon room behind the lift shafts.

Lavatories are grouped together on each floor next to the main staircase. The bookshop, a store and a dental clinic are the only rooms on the ground floor which is otherwise used as a covered play area.

The dental clinic is fitted with three dental chairs and is staffed by a government dental officer and dental nurses who attend on certain days of the week to treat the children of the school as well as those of other schools in the vicinity.

Structure and Finishes

The structure is reinforced con- crete frame and floor slabs cast from timber formwork. Concrete hollow blocks are used for the internal par- tition walls and clay bricks for ex- ternal infilling panels which are plastered and painted with cement paint externally and distemper in- ternally.

External walls of the assembly hall block are fair-faced brickwork.
