Kong to have this facility class- rooms could be designed on both sides of a central corridor. However, all classrooms are placed on the north side of the building in order to economise on the use of the air con- ditioning and to reduce the effects of the sun. As an added protection from the sun each floor is shielded by a 5ft. canopy.

Above the administra- tive level, laboratories and library are placed on the south side of the build- ing and are also protected by a pro- jecting canopy.

The grouping of the lecture and laboratory facilities on the top levels of the building also provides flexibili- ty to meet possible future alterations in teaching methods and teaching aids, such as visual-audio or labora- tory equipment.

The school is the first in Hong Kong to have its own water purifica- tion plant.

Exterior finishes on the building are predominantly white exposed ag- gregate with dark aggregate on the spandrels to emphasise the horizontal expression of the canopies. Architec- tural concrete is used for the exposed columns and the gymnasium floor walls, while fair-faced bricks are used for the fence wall and as paving dividers to add warmth to the build- ing as a whole.

Wide use has been made internal- ly, on lift lobby areas and in cor- ridors, of a specially imported epoxy- resin paint. Though initially expen-
