HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS
sive it is already proving its durability and is expected to effect a consider- able saving on maintenance work.
Church of All Nations
The church is sited on the highest ground, above the covered play area. It is connected to the first floor (or sixth level) of the school by a cor- ridor. An integral part of the com- plex, it is built at a right angle to the main building to form an open courtyard.
The roof of the church slopes steeply from west to east, creating an interesting interior space and giving the plaza playground a more intimate scale and sense of enclosure.
Natural lighting has been used to clever effect inside the church. Nar- row slot openings at a high level on the side walls provide shafts of light which lead to the central altar, above which is an upward reaching rectan- gular concrete skylight.
The skylight is open to the eastern sun and has a large textured, con- loured acrylic window which directs light to the altar and also provides a background for the symbolic cross.
Simple, warm materials have been used for the church interior. A large expanse of fair-face brick wall be- hind the altar contrasts with the white of the overhanging skylight and the white cement plaster on ceiling and walls. Pews, handrails and side-light frames are of natural teak.
