NOVEL SPACE SAVING STORAGE SYSTEM

TWO Australian businessmen re-

cently visited Hong Kong to promote Brownbuilt Compactus. a revolutionary storage system said to be ideally suited to the Colony's cramped conditions.

The men, Mr. John H. Wallis, technical manager for Brownbuilt and Mr. J. Russell, advertising and sales promotion manager, screened a film featuring their design to more than 100 leading Hong Kong busi- nessmen. The film had a big impact.

It showed how, with the system. storage space could be increased by as much as 122 per cent.

Simply, this is a system of mobile steel storage shelves. There hand and electrically driven models. Because of their mobility the shel- ves can be pushed together, eliminat- ing the aisle space between each row. A simple press of a lever moves any particular set of shelves apart, allow- ing quick access.

With it, not only is extra space provided by eliminating all aisles except one, but efficiency is increas- ed, labour costs lowered and firms

can be saved from having to move to larger and more expensive premises.

All units are custom made to the needs of the client. They can be made any style or shape, to suit any office factory or store such as dust- tight units for storing precious docu-

ments etc, huge open shelved units for storing bulky goods and wood panelled units for modern offices.

First major installations in Hong Kong have just been completed by the local agents Shewan Tomes (Equipment) Ltd. in the Mandarin Hotel.

housing scheme is to be built in the Wong Tai Sin area.

Construction work

on the first scheme west of the Wong Tai Sin Monastery is already well advanced and three of the blocks have been handed over to the Housing Author- ity for management.

the twelve-storey block, which will be attached to the eastern side of the higher block. will contain four-person and five-person flats. The two blocks will eventually accommodate about 14.000 people.

Lifts and refuse chutes will be con- structed inside the 20-storey block while the roof of the twelve-storey block will be used as a recreation

area.

Shops will be located on the groun floor of the 20-storey block on the side facing Lung Cheung Road.
