Twenty-storey Bell House will
have six blocks looking like one
TENDERS will shortly he let for
the construction of a 200 ft. high residential-commercial building on a key Mongkok site.
The building, a 20 storey structure to be known as Bell House, will be bounded by two major roads Nathan and Waterloo smaller Pitt Street.

It will cover 17,658 sq.ft. on a 255 x 68 ft. site and is expected to cost about $8 million.
Speculators forecast that it will greatly influence and encourage de- velopment in the area.

The building is due to be com pleted in 1965
at about the same tinie as another Mongkok giant, the 26 storey revolving re- staurant building at the corner of Nathan and Nelson roads (see June issue).
Bell House, designed by Mr. Andrew King Fun Lee, B. Arch., ARIBA, for the Sang Lee Invest- ment Co., will consist of six blocks divided by six feet wide air spaces.
These divisions will break up the mass of people who will live and work in the building, provide ade quate drafts for ventilation, hide
washing hung out to dry, and allow maximum light into all flats.
The outside appearance, however, will not be one of a row of separate buildings.
Green Chinese grilled tiles will cover the perpendicular air canyons and provide an integral part of the external design.
Each pair of blocks will have their own entrance, he served by two to three lifts, one staircase and a single corridor on each floor level. There will be no long and dreary "through" corridors.
