every conceivable position throughout the house irrespective of convenience or of logic, this structural atrocity fell into the hands of a modern spirit who refused to be awed by the dignity and austerity of a forgotten age. With the assistance of a kindred spirit, an architect who has done probably more than any other man to endow this Colony with buildings which reflect the new era of living conditions, he tore asunder, wall by wall, the shell of this mansion and caused to arise in its place a bright and attractive group of rooms, which can be truly considered the abode of the living and the residence of the free in spirit.
In the limited space at our disposal it is impossible to give more than a bare idea of what has been effected in this building. The study of the two cross- sections given will show the structural changes which have been effected. A

and the arrangement after alterations
were completed will reveal the difference in planning of the old age and new, while a comparison of the photographs taken just prior to commencement of demoli- tion work and the pictures of the com- pleted building will reveal, forcefully and unmistakably, how far we have
