progressed in our ideas of what constitutes livability and comfort in residential

construction.

In planning the rearrange- ment of the floor plan the architect's prime object was to reproportion the dimen- sions of the principal rooms so that their areas would be commensurate with their importance and to so place the the subsidiary and service rooms as not to interfere with their accessibility while relegating them to less conspicuous posi- tions than they formerly occupied. An- other improvement which was necessary was the enlarging of the entrance hail in order to conform with the modern ideas of the importance of an attractive reception hall. How this was accom- plished by elimination of unnecessary walls and the resetting of main walls is clearly shown in the plans.
