One of the pleasantest houses imaginable has been recently completed for Mr. G. G. Wood on R.B.L.411 Repulse Bay Road.
The building itself is set on a small spur almost over- looking the road and, in order to take full advantage of the limitations set by the size of the site, quite extensive retaining walls had to be built. These retaining walls, however, have been so designed as to serve not only their normal functions but to enclose the garage and a fair-sized entrance lobby as well.
The approach to the house is by means of an inclined roadway which sweeps past and to the rear of the building

and then widens into a courtyard which leads directly to the basement wherein are situated the garage and entrance hall. To the left of this courtyard extend the servants' quarters which project along the upper slope of the cutting from the ground floor of the house. As part of the entrance lobby there is a guest lavatory and small store.
Proceeding upstairs to the ground floor the staircase leads into a large bright hallway with wide french windows leading on to the verandah. To the right of this hallway is a large living room with a fireplace set in the centre of the long wall. The feature of this living room, in addition to its pleasant proportions, is the fact that it is connected with the hall by a wide archway and with the front verandah by wide french windows, the whole arrangement of living room, hallway and verandah forming one bright spacious unit. The fact that sliding folding doors and windows have been used throughout adds to the feeling of light and airiness.
To the left of the hallway, that is on the embankment side, are placed the dining room to the front of the house. the connecting pantry and kitchen and the extensive ser- vants' quarters. The floor level of this part of the house is several feet higher than the living room area and adds an unusual and pleasant touch.
