One of the most interesting development schemes now taking place in Singapore is a new first class residential estate off Kings Road, Bukit Timah.

Ideal Homes have acquired an area of land, between Kings Road and Coronation Road, about 5 miles from the General Post Office.

ESTATE

The land is high and undulating and commands extensive and uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside with Bukit Timah Hill and "The Gap" in the background. The total area is about 21 acres which is being subdivided into 28 lots, with an average area of 30,000 sq. ft. to each.

Main sewer and septic tank is being installed to give sewer connections to every site. Electricity, gas and water will be supplied by Municipal Mains. Work has already commenced and houses are being erected on sites No. 2, 4, 5 & 6. Several other sites are under option to prospective purchasers.

The site formation work of this hillside development was a work of major proportions and necessitated con- tinuous work by two bulldozers for several months.

The layout has been designed to give a natural and attractive grouping of the buildings in relation to the contours of the land and the buildings are being erected to the usual Ideal Homes standard and shew the outcome of thoughtful planning for the comfort of future occupiers as in their previous estates.

The developers have prepared several alternative designs for houses on this Estate of which two types are illustrated here.

Road & Sewers.

The main through road is being built to Municipal Specification for Class III Road, i.e. 6" Pitching with a 3′′ blinded and painted surface. The finished width of the roads will be 36′ including side tables and drains. The sewer is being laid in the road and will be taken over by the Municipality on completion.

Three 36′ wide access roads are being built, which will be maintained by the frontagers.
