TASEK ESTATE, IPOH, IS ATTRACTING MANY ASIAN INDUSTRIALISTS
POH. the throbbing and fast ex- panding, 200.000 population capital of the tin, rubber and iron rich Perak state, is now developing into a major industrial town.
Main centre of attraction is the 370-acre Tasek Industrial Estate. located within its municipal limits.
foreign industrialists, including groups from Japan. Formosa and Hong Kong, who have visited the area, have been much impressed with its firm, flat land and the extensive and cheap facilities available.
Already 30 firms (capital exceed. ing M$30 million) have booked up about 150 acres of tailor-made sites for a variety of industries, including firms from Hong Kong interested in textile manufacture.
The Tasek estate is bordered on one side by the main railway and sidings are easily connected to fac- tories. On another side is the main
trunk road. while the Ipoh airport is less than seven miles away.
Apart from good, broad internal roads and drainage in the industrial complex. adéquate facilities for power, treated and untreated water and telecommunication are available. A nearby river provides for easy disposal of effluents.
One of North Malaya's single big- gest industrial giants is located on a 29-acre site in Tasek. It is the M$20 million Tasek Cement Company which will go into production by midyear, using its first kiln to pro- duce 12.000 bags of cement daily.
Provision has been made in the factory for an additional kiln that will double output by year's end.
Other factories already in produc- tion or under construction are for reinforced and precast concrete build- ing and roofing materials, giant steel pipes, industrial chemicals, plywood
