BECAUSE of the exceptionally

steep, awkward site the exten- sion to the Salesian School, in Island Road, Shaukiwan, Hong Kong, had to be built on three levels.

The first part of the school built in 1952 has an extremely broad frontage but the new section is narrow and in order to get the required number of extra classrooms it was necessary to erect eight storeys.

A reinforced cement concrete frame structure, the addition has brick panel walls. The external plaster work is of Shanghai plaster.

The extension has given the school, which is conducted by the Salesian Fathers, 20 new classroms.
