ity has recently completed Phase I of a scheme at Kwun Tong (the Wo Lok Estate) and is well under way with the construction of its seventh project, at Tsuen Wan, New Territories (the Fuk Loi Estate).
Both these schemes include dwell- ing units of the usual Housing Authority type, that is, self-contained flats with the living/sleeping room planned on the basis of 35 square feet per person. plus a kitchen with a sink, work top, cooking slab and concrete shelf. Each flat also has its own private balcony or verandah with the toilet containing W.C. and shower opening off.
The Wo Lok Estate (Phase I) contains 864 flats, each for five or seven persons, in eight 7-storey buildings, identical in design and most of them linked by common access ramps. In addition there are 14 shops, each with a five-person flat attached, and an Estate Office. Accommodation for 5,254 persons is provided. The China Light & Power Co. has built a circular transformer house, in co-operation with the Authority's architects, on which a cream mosaic tiled plan of the Estate has been used as relief to the black walls.
The Fuk Loi scheme. at Tsuen Wan. will provide accommodation for 17,432 people in 2,924 flats. There will also be 32 shops, 2 kinder- garten, an Estate Office, and pent- houses for community or other uses.
