rear, the northern side. In order, therefore, to enable the occupants to enjoy the view and yet at the same time get the benefit of the prevailing summer breezes from the south, the architect designed the main living room to occupy the full width of the ground floor. This permits the win- dows facing south to admit the breeze which sweeps through French win- dows onto the verandah which extends the full length of the northern side of the living and dining rooms. For

the same reason, the master bedroom, on the first floor. OC- cupies the full western end of the house with windows open- ing north and south. A semi- circular verandah, above the billiard room, open to all three exposures, forms part of this room and is a further source

of ventilation.

In size and arrangement, the house has been planned to provide all the entertainment amenities which a man of the owner's wealth and standing requires. The circular entrance

hallway gives access for guests to the huge main living

room and for the private members of the family to a staircase leading to the upper floor. Off the living room, there are separate billiard and card rooms, so that those who indulge in either pastime can do so undisturbed. The dining room forms part of the living room, the decorations in both rooms being designed so as to sup- plement and merge with the other. A breakfast room, pantry, kitchen and servants' rooms, complete the

amenities of this floor.

The upper floor is devoted to the bedrooms, of which

there are four in number, three of which have attached

bathrooms. The master bedroom, as mentioned pre-

viously, occupies the west side of the house and is pro-

vided with a dressing room and the most magnificent

coloured bathroom imaginable.

Mr. H. M. Siu was the architect and, as could be

expected from this well-known Chinese architect, all the

minor details, the total sum of which provides the finer art of living, were incorporated in this residence.
