A view of the south elevation facing Po Shan Road.
We wonder how many people of Hong Kong. other than the residents of the district, have ventured along Robinson Road to Kotewall Road and along this street to Po Shan Road. It is at the extreme upper western part

of the island facing the harbour and runs above the con- gested western districts upon which it overlooks.
From the terminus of Kotewall Road, Hatton Road after an elevated crossing of Po Shan Road commences
its climb up the western slopes of Victoria Peak, passes along virgin hillside until at High West it meets the junction of Lugard and Harlech Roads which encircle Victoria Peak. A hike or walking tour around this district is a delightful experience as one can amble for hours along grassy slopes well covered with maturing trees without passing any built-up areas or crossing macadamized or concrete roads.
During the course of one of our rambles in this area, we noticed on Po Shan Road above its junction with Kotewall Road, what appeared from the distance to be, a huge pretentious new building. As we approached it we saw that the house itself was not extraordinarily large but that, in order to provide for a fair amount of lawn and levelled area around the house, huge retaining walls had been built.
Approaching the entrance to the grounds, we were rather taken with the design of the building which impressed us as being endowed with a dignity and balance not usually found in locally built residences these days, and it was obviously built for discriminating clients who did not mind spending an extra few dollars,- which is also rather unusual just now.
