School at Ka Wai Man Road, Kennedy Town, lying just below the West Point Village Housing Estate, is another Chung Hwa Sheng Kung Hui (Chinese Anglican Church) Primary School subsidised by Government.
The site is 15,000 sq. ft. in area and that part of the land belonging to the school has been granted free by Government. The whole site lies between the upper and lower stretches of the new approach road to the housing estate, representing a difference in level of some 40 ft.
The school has six floors compris- ing 26 classrooms, a practical room and three playgrounds-one open, one covered and one on the roof- totalling over 20,000 sq. ft. in all.
The Lui Ming Choi Foundation which was established by the late Mr. M. C. Lui (1888-1956), a pro- minent Swatow banker and a de- vout Christian, contributed $200,000 towards the cost of building. The Government granted a subsidy of $385.000 in addition to an interest- free loan of $210,000, and the re- mainder was raised by the Church.
St. Luke's Church is located on the top floor of the school, which is served by a Schindler lift. The Vicarage is on top of the church.
The church has a floor area of 5,000 sq. ft.. with a roof playground above supported by reinforced con- crete rigid frames. The accommoda- tion is 750 seats. Normally it is used as the School assembly hall during week days, with an alum- inium fold-door drawn across the Sanctuary.
The total cost of the project is approximately $1 million. Construc- tion took only nine months despite unusual rainfalls.
