Cha Kwo Ling mining and quarrying. In addition. 40.4 acres have been reserved for residential use. and 8.4 acres for a sheltered anchorage to the south-east of Sam Ka Tsuen industrial area.
Nineteen acres have been zoned for village type development. This includes village housing, foot- paths, local open space and small community buildings. It is intended to retain the character and function of Lei Yue Mun village as far as is pos- sible.
Bangkok University development
Seven 12 to 16-storey buildings are planned to be built on a site off Phyathai Road, Bangkok, under a 60-million baht project by Chulalongkorn University to provide dormitory accommodation

In Tsuen Wan urban area there has been a mas- sive increase of 186.000 people over ten years, and elsewhere in the New Territories the townships of Yuen Long and Tai Po have increased in number by 42,000 and 25,000 respectively.
Lai Chi Kok Hospital contract signed
A HK$50 million contract to build the new Lai Chi Kok General Hospital in the New Territories of Hong Kong was signed last month. The contract has been awarded to Sung Foo Kee Ltd., who will start work immediately.
Salt and fresh water mains from the distribu- tion system to the hospital site, site formation and the sub-structure are already complete. The super- structure, an H-shaped complex with three inter- connected blocks, two of 11 storeys and one of four, is scheduled to be finished in 1973. It will contain 1,320 beds.
The main block will contain offices, general medical and surgical rooms. One block will be for

for students. Each dormitory block will house about 350 students.
Construction is expected to begin within the next two months and the scheme is expected to take about ten years to complete. Plans have been prepared by Assistant Professor M.L. Pratheep Malakul. Pramot Taengthiang and Kiat Jivakul.
Population movement to new townships
Recent census figures show that the Central and Sheung Wan Districts of Hong Kong have only half their 1961 population 23,000 living in Central compared with 48,000 in 1961 and 68,000 in Sheung Wan compared with 143,000 ten years ago.
'This development reflects the demolition of tenements and their replacement by office blocks,' said Mr. K.M. Topley, the commissioner for census and statistics, last month. The biggest increase on Hong Kong island is an extra 78,000 in Aberdeen. This is due to the building of the Tin Wan and Wah Fu Estates.'
The Kowloon Districts have been generally steady in population but Tsim Sha Tsui is down by 14,000 and the bigger district of Yaumati down by 20,000.
In New Kowloon, Kai Tak has increased from 251,000 to 556,000 Ngau Tau Kok from 54,000 to 231,000, and Lei Yu Mun from 27,000 to 222,000. These three largely new districts, which include the town of Kwun Tong, now contain a

general patients and the other for those with in- fectious diseases and chronic ailments. The casual- ty unit will be housed in the four-storey block along with storerooms, workshops and mechanical plant.
Island hospital to be improved
St. John's Hospital on Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong is to get a new look at a cost of more than HK$2 million. Work on improving the 40-year old building will start in September this year and will take about one year to complete.
A new building will be built to house the out- patients clinic, and improvements will be made to the nurses and staff dormitory accommodation. The layout of the first floor will be changed to include a maternity ward and a general ward. Other works will include the air conditioning of some offices and rewiring the electrical system.
