These will occupy half the site, with the remainder being laid out as gardens and open space for sun- bathing.
The main pool hall, a reinforced concrete portal frame structure, will have a clear span of 110 ft. between the inner faces of columns. A large area of the roof will have sky-lighting to increase the feel- ing of spaciousness. Designed for all-year use, both hall and pool will be heated in winter. In summer the hall may be opened on all sides to improve ventilation.
The main building contract has been let, to Tai Yieh Construction Co. Ltd. Reiss Bradley Ltd. will supply the filtration plant. The pool is expected to be opened next April.
Progress on naval base housing
Piling work has been completed for the S$5 million housing project being carried out at the Singapore Naval Base by the Jurong Town Corpora- tion.

The scheme is the first to be undertaken by the
Government in the area and will provide about 500 flats for workers in the factories to be established in the base after the withdrawal of British troops later this year. Three blocks of flats will be ready for occupation by the middle of next year.
Zoning plan for part of Kowloon
Hong Kong's Town Planning Board has publish- ed a draft outline zoning plan for Cha Kwo Ling, Yau Tong and Lei Yue Mun, Kowloon, covering an area of about 475 acres.
A total of 57.6 acres has been zoned for indus- trial use, of which 22 acres at Yau Tong Bay have been developed. The remaining 35.6 acres at Sam Ka Tsuen are available for development and will include sites for cooked food stalls, restaurants and other ancillary uses.
Another 41.4 acres have been earmarked for Government, institution and community uses, such as schools, hospitals and other government and institutional buildings. A multi-storey car park and other community facilities will be provided on the reclamation at Tsau Wan and a ferry concourse and bus terminus have been proposed for the water- front site at Sam Ka Tsuen. Another waterfront site at Cha Kwo Ling has been reserved for a possi- ble lairage and abattoir designed to serve the whole of New Kowloon East.
A green belt, covering an area of more than 240 acres, is designed to establish the limits of urban expansion, thus surrounding the existing and future built-up limits. This area includes the fairly steep hillside to the east of the planning area and
