pared for the project and subsequent- İy a Time Bar Chart was compiled for the contractor's use. This was considered to be essential in view of the many indeterminates and vari- ables within the scope of the contract.
Road works on the southern sec- tion were put in hand immediately and progressed well. The main in- terest here was the use of ready- mixed concrete by the contractor which, coupled with the use of a vibrating roller, reduced considerably the normal time required to a lay concrete road slab.
The method of laying the road slabs, once established, did not vary, but unfortunately full advantage of this could not be taken as only very limited areas were available at a time, due to traffic restrictions and the utility works.
Construction of the columns and cantilever beams followed a standard sequence as follows:-

The total time required to carry out the whole sequence was 20 days.
Vibrating concrete for the edge beam
This was made possible by the use of prefabricated formwork for both the columns and beams, with 1 in. thick plywood and 4 in. x 2 in. walings. The shuttering was tied together using 1⁄2 in. bolts in loose sleeves in the concrete. This was ex- tremely satisfactory in practice.
