Powair 375 and 250
new line of Powair portable com- pressors. Both units are more com- pact than their predecessors and have new power packs.
air
The 375 has a Matchmatic system control which matches air delivery to air demand and holds a steady pressure regardless of work load. Increased working power is provided by an air temperature con- trol which delivers air at the most efficient temperature, from 180 to 300 degrees, to accomplish the work.
The engine is a 6V-71 GM diesel, and standard equipment in- cludes an air receiver which is also a twist-free tubular chassis, lock-up drawbar with quick release, eight- hour fuel tanks and four-wheel spring mounting.
Model 250 is 10 in. shorter and 300 lb. lighter than the previous model. It is powered by a GM4-71 diesel and has the same air system control. Two-wheel, four-wheel or crawler track mounting is available.
Details of both models may be obtained from Schramm Inc., 900 East Virginia Avenue, West Chester, Penn., USA.
TRACTORS
Four New Models from Massey-Ferguson
BUILT-IN "pressure control", which gives weight transference to trailed equipment and maintains traction on rough sites, s featured on four new tractor models introduced by Massey-Ferguson, Coventry, UK. It produces a constant lift effort by the lower hydraulic links and, at maxi- mum setting, weight on the tractor's rear wheels can be nearly doubled.
Smallest model, the MF 130, has a 30 h.p four-cylinder diesel and is fitted with synchromesh on four of its eight-speed gears, The hydraulic
system gives draft control, position. and response control, while a link- age lock holds mounted implements
in the raised position for road trans- port. Rear and central power-take- offs and disc brakes are fitted.
In the medium class, the MF 135 has a three-cylinder diesel rated at 45.5 h.p.. and six forward and two reverse speeds with 12-speed Multi- power as optional equipment. A third light model, the MF 165, has a four-cylinder 58.3 h.p. diesel engine and may be fitted with power steer- ing.
The fourth model is in the heavy tractor class. Designated MF 175 it has a direct injection diesel giving 66.4 h.p. at 2.000 r.p.m., and power steering.
A steel-framed fibreglass cab is fitted on all models. It has detach- able hinged doors and a removable top.

EARTHMOVER
Power Self-loading with 21 cu. yd. Capacity
TWO Tournapull self-loading scraper units have been supplied for work on Singapore's low-cost housing projects by Le Tourneau- Westinghouse Pty., Ltd., Rydalmere, NSW, Australia.
Both are the Model C prime mover with a 222 scraper incor- porating an elevator which pulverises the material and throws it back and up into the bowl. The heaped bowl capacity is 21 cu. yd. or 25 tons.

and is then spread with a specially designed strike-off blade to keep the "fill" level and at an even thickness.
The prime mover is powered by a General Motors GM8V-71 diesel developing 280 b.h.p. at 2.100 r.p.m. The electrical system provides power for steering and operating the eleva- tor. Allison CLBT-4460 power shift transmission with torque converter is fitted, giving six forward and one reverse speeds.
The cutting blade of the scraper unit is controlled by two 6 in. by 18 in. hydraulic remote cylinders. Width of cut is 126 in. The scraper has a 23 ft. wheelbase and like the prime mover is fitted with multiple disc air brakes.
Fast cycle times are achieved by the Model C as it needs no support- ing equipment and time is not lost in waiting and positioning for a pusher.

DREDGES
Reports on Aggregate Recovery Problems
HOW hydraulic dredging provided two different solutions to aggregate recovery problems is described in two technical bulletins available from Ellicott Machine Corporation, 1611 Bush Street, Baltimore, Md., USA.
One solution, offered by a standard Ellicott hydraulic pipeline cutterhead dredge, has been used by Ohio River Sand & Gravel Co. for digging, and screening aggregate material from the Ohio River since 1960.
The other solution. offered by a portable Dragon Model hydraulic dredge, is applied by Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation at its New- port. N. J. plant to dig and transport the waterbound sand used in its pro- cessing operations. How a tailings peninsula was created and other operational efficiencies were achieved by the dredge are described.
