AIR COMPRESSOR
Compact Unit Can Power Two Drilling Rigs
SOON to be made available to the S.E. Asia market, the Atlas Copco PT 1200 air compressor is capable of operating two large drilling rigs. It is said to be two-thirds the volume and half the weight of any machine with a comparable output of 1,200 c.f.m.
Overall dimensions are 10 ft. 10 in. long. 5 ft. 10 in. wide and 6 ft. 3 in. high, the weight being 6,700 lb. Canopy covers on each side of the body can be folded back for inspec- tion and maintenance purposes, and a centralised instrument panel is acces- sible through a sliding door in the left-hand cover.
Maintenance of the compressor can be carried out on site, as its unitary construction allows components such as the oil-pump, running indicator box, etc., to be readily interchangeable with new parts should they fail. The two-stage dry-type rotary-screw com- pressor works without oil injection into the compression chambers, so that the machine is suitable for jobs such as testing pipelines or in caisson work and other applications where oil- free air is essential. Oil is used only for lubrication and cooling the bear- ings, thus reducing running costs,
Capable of delivering up to 1,200 c.f.m. at 100 p.s.i. the compressor has a Fuelmiser governor that adjusts the running speed to give between 750 c.f.m. and the maximum, as required.
An eight-cylinder General Motors Type 8V-71N water-cooled two-stroke diesel delivers 315 b.h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m., the 24 V. starter system using two 12 V. heavy-duty batteries. Fuel consumption at maximum delivery is 14 g.b.h., and the tank capacity of
108 gal. allows nearly eight hours' continuous running. The machine travels on four wheels with 7.00-16 tyres and overrun-operated brakes.
The makers are Atlas Copco AB. Stockholm 1. Sweden.

HAULING UNITS
Athey Vehicles for Michigan 210 and 310 Tractors
THREE new, heavy-duty hauling
units are now available for use with rubber-tyred Michigan tractors, manu- factured by the Construction Ma- chinery Division of Clark Interna- tional Marketing, S.A.. Benton Har- bour, Michigan, USA.
The trailers are manufactured by Athey Products Corporation, Raleigh, North Carolina. Athey's M-2740R rear-dump rocker and M-3045B bot- tom-dump hauler are teamed with the Michigan 210 tractor.
The Michigan 210 is rated at 262 or 290 h.p.. depending on engine selection, and the 310 is powered by a 475 h.p. engine. Both tractors have full power shift transmissions. The model 310, with eight forward speeds, has a top speed of 31 m.p.h. while the four-speed 210 tractor has a top speed of 29 m.p.h.
SAE heaped capacities for the trail- ers are 24 cu. yd. for the rear-dump used with the Michigan 210 and 32 cu. yd. for the rear-dump unit which takes the Michigan 310. The bottom- dump unit for the 310 tractor has an SAE heaped capacity of 35 cu. yd. Fabricated from high strength

steel, the hauling units bottoms and sides are formed by one-piece_plates and reinforced with box beams. Bodies are contoured to facilitate loading and dumping, with floors and sides sloped forward 18 degrees to cushion loads on the rear dumps.

TRACTOR SHOVEL Fully Hydraulic Machine with Several Attachments
MITSUBISHI announce the introduc- tion of a new crawler mounted pow- ershovel, the Mitsubishi-Yumbo mo- del Y-55. This is a medium-sized machine similar to the model Y-35 which has been on the market since 1961 through a tie-up with Yumbo of France.
The new shovel is equipped with full oil pressured devices to the oper- ation and may be fitted with several attachments including loader bucket, grab bucket and crane hook. Diesel powered it has a road speed of 2.93 km hr and a maximum climbing an- gle of 35 degrees. The standard back- hoe bucket has a capacity of 3 cu. m.
Specifications include: Total weight 8,950 kg.: length 2,760 mm; width 2.446 mm: minimum operating height 3.000 mm.
