REPORT OF HOUSING BOARD

The Hong Kong Government should investigate the pos- sibility of the early conversion of some of the older reset- tlement blocks into self-contained flats. This is one of the recommendations contained in the Housing Board's re- port for the period April 1, 1966 to March 31, 1967.

The board also recommends that the balance between the present resettlement and Government low cost housing building programmes be adjusted to allow 550,000 indi- vidual units of resettlement accommodation and 440,000 units of Government low cost housing to be constructed between April 1, 1967 and March 31, 1973.

Further recommendations by the board are for a housing census to be undertaken by the Commissioner of Census and Statistics in 1970 and for the Government to continue to support the Hong Kong Building and Loan Agency Ltd. and explore the possibility of promoting joint development ventures with private enterprise.

It will be about 1,000 ft. long, including ramps. The 50 ft. wide flyover will be constructed in prestressed concrete and supported on piled foundations. In order to minimise the interference of traffic during the construction. wherever possible structural elements will be precast on the ground and erected during off-peak periods.

Construction work will take about 18 months to com- plete. The consulting engineers for both projects are Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick and Partners, Hong Kong and Free- man, Fox and Partners, London, who act for the Director of Public Works, Hong Kong.
