Priestman Beaver excavator

EXCAVATOR

All-purpose Machine from Priestman

A VERSATILE hydraulic excavator will be available in the Far East in the summer. Called the Beaver, it can be produced as a backhoe, shovel or grab. With long booms fitted it will also operate as a dragline, crane or grab. The makers are Priestman Bros., Ltd., Hull, England.

Swivel link connection allows the backhoe bucket to be quickly revers- ed for use as a shovel, and by re- and tracting the two-piece boom repositioning the arm ram, the tooth effort is increased. Shovel buckets up to cu. yd. may be fitted.

As a grab the Beaver has a closing jaw pressure of 15 tons. The cross- ram grab, suitable for off-set trench- ing or deep square excavations, can be accurately placed using a hydraulic rotation device. There are three sizes of interchangeable shells.

For the long boom equipment the design permits fitting twin rope drums and boom suspension by luffing ropes, without disturbing the hydraulic components.

The ground pressure of the ma- chine is kept below 4 p.s.i. by the large crawler base and track plates up to 30 in. wide. Dragline buckets of up to cu. yd. may be fitted and the maximum operating radius is 31 ft. Alternative throttle positions are provided for hydraulic and long boom equipments.

A cross-roll slewing ring interlocks the superstructure and crawlers and maintains alignment of gearing and shafts.

The power unit may be a Lister HB, 4 air-cooled or Ford 592.E water- cooled four-cylinder diesel engine, both developing 48 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. Engine speed at 2,000 r.p.m. gives a swing speed of 8.6 r.p.m. and travel speed of 1.3 m.p.h. For long boom work engine speed is 1,500 r.p.m., giving a 6.5 r.p.m. swing speed and travel speed of I m.p.h.

WELDING SET Portable Unit Weighs Only 44 lb.

ESAB of Goteborg 8, Sweden, are to export a bantamweight handweld- ing outfit, produced as a complete unit for immediate use on light or medium metals.

The unit, which is made up of a transformer contained in a heavy- duty polythene case, has nine weld- ing current settings between 50 and 140 amps and an open-circuit voltage of 50 volts. It is electrically insulat- ed and contains an over-load circuit- breaker as an additional safety mea-

sure.

The diameter of the welding elec- trodes which can be used are: 5/64 in., 3/32 in., and 1/8 in. Total weight is 44 lb., and the outer dimensions are: height 9 in., width 11 in., and depth 15 in.

The outfit is supplied for mains voltages of 220 volts, 50 or 60 cycles, and can be made available for 380 x 415 or 440 volts, 50 or 60 cycles.

BLOCK MAKER Produces Hollow, Solid and Screen Blocks

A FAST method of manufacturing concrete blocks directly on to а concrete apron has been produced by the West German firm, Zenith Mas- chinenfabrik GMBH, Neunkirchen, Kr. Siegen.

First stage of the process involves the Hydro-Automaton 907 SV hydraulic machine which is capable of producing for example 12 blocks

of 40 x 20 x 20 cm. at a time with only one operator. The speed of the machine is two cycles a minute, or about 12,000 blocks of these dimen- sions in an eight-hour day. The rate of production varies according to the size of the blocks required.

Concrete is fed into the hopper of the Automaton by a Titan 4R diesel- engined loader with a special deep concrete bucket.

a

In the final stage of production a fork lift truck, type 1500, with clamp attachment handles the blocks. After the blocks have been air cur- ed, it picks them up and stacks them for storage and can also be used for lorry loading.

In addition to normal hollow blocks, the Automaton manufactures solid, chimney and screen blocks.

TRACTORS

Two Crawler Models by Bristol-Saunders

CRAWLER tractors powered by a 40 h.p. Perkins diesel engine and fitted with a ten-speed gearbox have been announced by Bristol-Saunders Sales,

Bristol-Saunders 405 front loader

Ltd., Worcester, UK. There are two basic models: the Bristol Taurus

BS.404

for angledozing, and BS.405 for earth-moving.

the

The BS.404 has four track-rollers each side and is fitted with an oscil- lating track frame i.e. the beam connecting the tracks is pivoted at the centre so that one track can be high- er than the other while the machine itself remains level.

BS.405 is available either as a front loader or as a front and overhead loader.

The basic machine weighs about 7,500 lb. (3,400 Kg) and gives a draw- bar pull of about 8,800 lb.

As a front loader the BS.405 can lift the bucket to a maximum height of 10 ft. 2 in. with a dumping angle of 60°. Bucket capacity is cu, yd. and movement of both bucket and boom is controlled hydraulically by a single lever.

Bristol-Saunders state that they are not as yet represented in South East Asia but would welcome genuine en- quiries about importing and distribut- ing their range.
