COMPRESSOR Compact and Quiet

74 c.f.m. model

THE Hymatic Engineering Co., Ltd., Redditch, UK, have introduced a 74 c.f.m. Hydrovane portable diesel compressor with a power to weight ratio of 17.8 lb. per cu. ft. It is fitted with a sealed cooling system to eliminate freezing and boiling.

Powered by a Perkins 4.107 four cylinder diesel, developing 26.5 b.h.p. at a full load speed of 2,000 r.p.m., the 74D gives a free air delivery of 74 c.f.m. at a working pressure of 100 p.s.i. sufficient to power one heavy breaker or two medium tools.

Drive is direct, through a rubber cushioned coupling, and an engine

speed control automatically reduces off-load speed to 1,250 r.p.m.

The detachable steel cover folding side panels and the canopy ends are made from glass-fibre with steel reinforcement at the wearing points. The Hydrovane can be used with the canopy fully closed to re- duce noise level.

The integral compressor unit is of the oil sealed rotary type and there are no external receivers, separators or associated pipework. Dimensions of the Hydrovane are: 7ft. 9in. long, 4ft. lin. wide and 3ft. 7in. high.

Distributors for Hong Kong are Gilman and Co., Ltd.; for Malaysia, George Cohen (Far East) Ltd., Singapore; and for Thailand and the Philippines, Mitsui Seiki Kogyo, Tokyo.

TRACTOR

Built on Solid Steel

Main Frame

THE main frame of a new Caterpil- lar 65 h.p. tractor, the 4D4, supports the power train components and in addition transmits bulldozer loads through an equaliser spring to the roller frames. The frames consist of two high-strength solid steel mem- bers, 14in. by 10in. at the rear, taper-

construction allows easy servicing and it is possible to remove individually the engine, barrel-type transmission and the flywheel clutch. A double U-joint between the clutch and transmission aids removal and eliminates re-alignment problems after servicing.

The engine has a displacement of 350 cu. in. and develops 65 flywheel horsepower at 1,680 r.p.m. Barrel- type transmission is similar to that used on the larger Caterpillar craw- lers. There are five forward and five reverse speeds, with a single forward- reverse lever. A power-take-off rotates in the same direction whether the transmission is in forward or

reverse.

The five-roller, box-section roller frames are held in alignment with diagonal braces. Track rollers, car- rier rollers and idlers are filled with oil at the factory and need no ser- vicing until they are rebuilt.

CRAWLER LOADER Improved Model with 7/8 cu. yd. Bucket

AN improved version of their 1010 crawler loader has been announced by American company, John Deere. Fitted with a standard bucket of

cu. yd., the new model features a 40 h.p. engine with better compres- sion and combustion than the pre- vious unit. Steel backed aluminium bearings are used for better load carrying and high temperature operation.

A heat-resistant glass-walled lower sediment bowl for the fuel oil al- lows a visual check for water in the system, which can then be easily drained.

The new 1010 retains the hydraulic direction reverser in each of the four speed ranges, permitting the selection of reverse or forward gear without declutching.

The loader boom has been stream- lined SO that the bucket cylinder connecting link is now included in the body of the boom instead of being welded to the underside. A single lever control for all bucket positions is retained.

John Deere agents include: U.S. Industries (Philippines) Inc., Manila, and Mikuni Shoko Co., Tokyo.

TRUCK CRANE

Handles up to 105 ft. of Boom

MAXIMUM off-highway speed of 26.6 m.p.h. can be obtained from the new P & H 218TC truck crane, announc- ed by the Harnischfeger Corpora- tion, 4400 West National Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Maxi- mum road speed is 46 m.p.h.

The 6 by 4 carrier features all- welded construction and is powered by a 154 h.p. petrol engine, provid-

ing five speeds forward and a reverse speed with a two speed auxiliary

transmission.

Accurate, positive control while raising and lowering the boom is provided by the "triple safe" inde- pendent planetary boom hoist. A four speed transmission offers a selection of operating speeds to meet all power requirements to lift light or heavy loads smoothly and effi- ciently. The machine handles up to 105ft. of boom.
