Under Special Expenditure $64,500 is required for cemetery vans (1 new and 2 replacements); $79,700 for motor vehicles which includes 1 lorry (replacement), 2 station wagons, 8 motor scooters (2 new and 6 replacements), 2 pick-up vans (replacements) and revote of $1,700; $677,800 for nightsoil collecting vehicles which includes a revote of $675,000 for 15 vehicles; $1,944,500 for refuse collecting vehicles ($350,000 for new items, $326,500 for 9 replacements and a revote of $1,268,000 for 20 vehicles); $127,500 for 3 street washing vehicles (1 replacement, and a revote for 2 vehicles). Revotes included are $15,000 for 1 broadcasting van, $27,500 for 1 dead animals and condemned meat van and $27,000 for 1 meat delivery van. Other items are $15,000 for athletic equipment for Boundary Street Ground; $29,000 for conversion of tennis courts; $3,200 for 8 loudhailers; $4,500 for 3 Minute Man resuscitators; $19,300 for mowing machine equipment; $2,900 for a set of 60-seater portable spectator stands; $28,000 for 2 rafts; $1,800 for a tape recorder; $3,600 for installa. tion of telephones at Colonial Cemetery and Wo Hop Shek Cemetery; $2,900 for one trichinoscope and $1,000,000 for Urban Amenities, Parks and Playgrounds. $250,000 has provisionally been included to cover the cost of ceremonies to mark the opening of the new City Hall; this figure includes provision for a contribu- tion to the London Philharmonic Orchestra to enable that orchestra to perform in the new Concert Hall as part of the celebrations.

An additional post of Housing Manager has been included, with token provision only to enable recruitment to begin during 1961/62, for duties in connexion with the new Choi Hung Estate. The increases of 1 Senior Housing Assistant, 5 Housing Assistants, 2 Assistant Building Maintenance Officers, 3 Typists, 1 Head Estate Caretaker, and 4 Estate Caretakers, are necessary for the additional accommodation to be completed on the So Uk and Ma Tau Wai Estates. In addition 2 more clerks and a clerical assistant are required to cope with increased administrative and accounting work in the Head Office.
7 posts of Assistant Clerks of Works and 2 posts of Foremen Class II, have been deleted,
being no longer required.
The salaries of the staff of the Housing Division (with the exception of those of the Commissioner for Housing and his stenographer), plus a 30% surcharge to cover overheads and the liability for pensions, passages, medical services, etc., are reimbursed to Government by the Hong Kong Housing Authority.
Housing Division expenses met out of Government funds were previously provided for under Head 78. These expenses are now itemized under this vote, and are deemed to be overheads covered by the 30% surcharge on Personal Emoluments recovered from the Housing Authority.
