The addition of 34 new posts comprises 9 for new projects and 25 to deal with the general increase in the volume of work in the Department. The 9 posts for new projects consist of 1 clerk, 1 clerical assistant and 1 messenger for the Births, Deaths and Marriage Registry to be established in August 1961 at Kwun Tong; 1 Senior Legal Assistant, 1 Legal Assistant, 1 Assistant Registrar Class II, 1 Secretary Stenog- rapher and 2 clerks for the utilization of the Cadastral survey in the New Territories.
Of the 25 posts provided to deal with the increase in the volume of work, 6 (1 Legal Assistant, 1 Clerk, 1 Typist and 3 Clerical Assistants) have already been approved by Special Warrant; the other 19 posts consist of 2 Legal Assistants, 1 Assistant Registrar Class I, 3 Assistant Registrars Class II, 1 Executive Officer, 1 Secretary Stenographer, 5 Clerks, 4 Clerical Assistants, and 2. Typists: these latter increases are offset by the reduction of 1 post of Treasury Accountant. The post of supernumerary Assistant Registrar Class I has been deleted upon the completion of pre-retirement leave of the holder.
Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent, increased provision is necessitated by Departmental requirements in the utilization of the Cadastral Survey in the New Territories, the expansion of Registries in the Department and the expansion of activities in general. Cleaning of offices is a new item which was formerly included under Incidental Expenses. Subsistence Allowances have been provided for staff working in the New Territories. The increased estimate for Stores and Equipment is attributable to the operation of a second copying machine.
Under Special Expenditure, the Encyclopaedia Britannica is for use in the Trade Marks Registry and the Tape Recorder is for recording meetings held by the Official Receiver.
