The impending operation of the Airport on a 24-hour basis has necessitated the above increases in staff which, with the exception of the Airport Manager and a few minor posts, were all approved by special warrant during the year. The Airport Manager post is now provided so that a senior officer can be available at all times. Five Assistant Information Officer Class II posts are created in the Airport Administrative Division offset by the reduction of four posts of Clerk in the Air Traffic Control Division.

The extension in the hours of operation of the Airport also accounts for the increase in provision in the vote for fuel, light and power: there will be a higher consumption of electricity. The increase in the provision for Cable and Wireless services reflects the great increase in the amount of precision equipment in use which require maintenance.

At this stage of development of the Airport, it is necessary to have more aircraft for calibration flights to check air navigation aids; accordingly a special item has been included to cover such hire charges.
