Headquarters
One Assistant Stores Officer is required to control the large quantity of stores used in the many Stores and Sub-Stores of the Department, this post being offset by the reduction of one post of Storekeeper Class II. Six posts of Office/Workshop Assistant and one post of Office Attendant are required to meet general expansion.
Administration and Operations Division
Of the additional 17 clerical posts, 14 are to be taken over from the Treasury with the responsibility for collecting rents in the Estates, and 3 are for new projects. Included in the increase of 167 posts of Resettlement Labourer are 57 approved by Special Warrant when this Department took over from the Urban Services Department the responsibility for scavenging duties throughout the Estates.
The remaining new posts are required for normal expansion and new projects.
Squatter Prevention and Control Division
It is considered that the duties formerly carried out by two Land Bailiffs can be performed by Assistant Resettlement Officers. Two posts of Land Bailiff have therefore been deleted and replaced by 2 posts of Assistant Resettlement Officer. Five posts of Area Officer and 3 posts of Motor Driver have been transferred to the Administration and Operations Division.
Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent the increased expenditure of $377,500 is attributable to the erection of more multi-storey buildings and normal expansion.
Under Special Expenditure the provision of $827,600 under subhead 8 (Development of cottage areas) includes revotes of $401,180 for works delayed through unforeseen circumstances, and $426,420 for new contruction works. The provision of $81,000 for Motor transport includes a revote of $13,500 for replacing one old Land Rover and $67,500 for five Land Rovers to replace five 3-ton lorries.
