Notes on 1932 Estimates.

HONG KONG.

Buildings.

Sub-head 1.--New No. 2 Police Station, $125,000. The Station is being constructed on the Praya East Reclamation and fronts on Gloucester Road. Piling was carried down to solid ground and completed in October, 1930. Work under the main contract was put in hand in November of that year and the building will be completed during 1932.

2.-Sai Ying Pun New Market, $130,000. The new building is situated near the old market. Work was commenced in October 1930 and will be completed during 1932. After completion, the old market will be demolished and the site made available for other purposes.

3.-Market at Praya East Reclamation, $17,000. This new one storey building comprising 36 stalls and caretakers quarters is situate on portion of that section of the Reclamation which is bounded by Lockhart, Stewart, Hennessy and Fleming Roads. A contract for this work has been let and will be completed in 1932.

4.-Latrine at l'ossession Point, $21,500. This work will be commenced in 1932. A larger Public Latrine is urgently required in this district to replace the existing inadequate convenience which requires to be resited owing to improvements contemplated in respect of the area known as Possession Point.

General Works.

5.—Roads, $50,000. This sum is required to provide for road surfacing, kerbing, channelling and footpaths as new buildings are erected during the year.

6 —Drainage—(a) Training Nullahs. $20,000. This sum is required to cover the cost of stream course training arising out of new development.

(b) Sewage & Stormwater Drains, $60,000. This is to meet the cost of providing drainage for properties on new areas under development.

7.—Miscellaneous. $15,000. The vote provides funds in respect of various.

small works which arise during the year.

8.-Waterworks, $10,000. Provides for extensions to subsidiary water

mains and miscellaneous minor works.

9.-Port Works, $5,000, covers expenses incurred in taking soundings, borings, and for preliminary investigations in connection with new and proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping etc.

Communications.

10.-1st Section of the new 100 foot Road between Causeway Bay and Ming Yuen Gardens. $50,000. To provide for continuing the work on the new 100 foot main road between Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay. For the present it is proposed to limit this section to a width of 70 ft.

Miscellaneous.

11.-Chinese Cemeteries, laying out new areas, $6,000. To provide for

additional burial areas in existing cemeteries.
